My rating is probably over-generous... - By: Mrs. Fiona Wilton, 09 Jun 2010
I watched most of this film on the fast mode on my DVD player as it would have been a waste of life to watch it laboriously plough to the end. The plot centres on a group of girls who belong to an inner circle 'led' by a bohemian looking teacher. So far, so The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. I kept expecting the whole creme de la creme scene at any moment - & actually would have been thankful that Eva Green was speakingin her own language as I was never quite sure whether she was supposed to have a French accent or whether her attempt at an English one was just very bad indeed. Predictably an outsider comes into the group & oh she has a fatal flaw - quelle surprise. All is not what it seems & the film lurches predictably to a rather horrible & murky end. I've really enjoyed books such as The Secret History & The Lake of Dead Languages as well as Miss Jean Brodie, Dead Poets & the History Boys, but this film was quite a let down.
I Wanted More.... - By: HGA Leese, 19 May 2010
god this film is depressing it really gets across the emotion of livingin the situation these girls were in! (notin a negative sense) The film is really beautifully shot, the landscape that the school is setin is lush, its quite a slow moving story but watching Eva Green helps the progress. its a good film over all but i did find myself wanting more scences with eva Greens character (Miss G) & Maria Valverde (Fiamma). Really good real acting especially by juno Temple i loved her because she really made you hate her characterin the film she was a right bitch!I would recommend a similar movie to this it would be a film called loving annabelle this film has a happy ending though no crazy lady murderers!
cracks - By: Cat Rillo, 13 May 2010
Cracks is the tale of obsessive lovein a 1930's girls boarding school, Enid Blyton it is not; expect to be shocked.
delicately beautiful - By: S. Goffredi, 27 Apr 2010
A fantastic first film from Ms Scott & a fabulous performance from all the main characters, but especially Eva Green. This is a gentle & intelligent film that explores the dark side of love & infatuation. Ms Scott treats the story with delicacy & subtley that draw the viewer into the isolated world enhabitted by the characters. The cinematorgraphy is just lovely. This is definately not a film for people who want action & a fast pace, but if you want an inteligent film that explores human emotion & relationships & will stay with you long afterwards, then I can totaly recomend it.
