ntl Information
ntl
TV and telephone services emerged from the deregulation
of the UK telecommunications sector. ntl first known as CableTel
(and then Cable & Wireless before becoming ntl) entered into
the sector with the opening up of the market in 1991. Their first
service took on two big companies, British Telecom (BT) and BSkyB
when they announced the ntl package which bundled cable television
in with their telephony services. In two years of operation ntl
had far outstretched other competitors that had also entered the
sector and greatly exceeded industry expectations with their clever
variety of ntl packages. Not all UK homes are able to access
the ntl cable TV fiber optic network but there are over two
million customers subscribed to their services and the company is
ever expanding the number of homes able to access their services.
More recent developments include ntl digital TV services
such as ntl video on demand - which enables ntl digital TV customers
(who number approximately 1.5 million) to manage and control their
TV viewing service at times that are convenient to their individual
needs. ntl packages also offer a wide variety of low cost
call packages on their telephone service as well as broadband and
modem Internet access packages.
